Redefining Procedural Generation

In their latest blog post, the Hytale team gave us a breathtaking look at the future of world generation. The new system, dubbed "Orbis V2", completely overhauls how the world is built, allowing for much more dramatic landscapes and cohesive environments.

Infinite Verticality (Almost)

While the vertical limit isn't technically "infinite", the build height has been significantly increased. We can now explore:

  • Deeper Oceans: Complete with abyssal trenches and bioluminescent biomes.
  • Towering Peaks: Mountains that pierce the clouds, requiring climbing gear or magic to traverse.

The Node System

World generation is now controlled by a node-based graph editor available to modders. This means server owners can tweak biome placement, river density, and cave frequency without writing a single line of code.

Zone Transitions

Gone are the hard borders between zones. The new blending algorithm creates seamless transitions where a snowy tundra might gradually thaw into a temperate forest, or a desert might fade into a savannah.
